Parents of children participating in LOWC take turns running the program once a month |
Children in grades 1-5 are asked to sign up for this program at Faith Formation Registration. We need to know in advance how many children's bulletins to order so that every child will receive one. Children just visiting our parish and parents are always welcome to attend!
We need 16 parents committed to making LOWC a priority once a month. This is a wonderful way to meet other other parents, to get to know the kids you see at Mass each Sunday, and to give back to our parish community!
What's required of LOWC team members? 1) When it is your team's turn to lead LOWC, you will be there to help. If something comes up and you can't make it on your week, you will make arrangements to trade weeks with a parent on another team. 2) You will take turns with your team members performing the various duties required to run the program. LEADER - processes into Church with the LOWC book, reads the Gospel, discusses the readings (suggestions are in the LOWC book for what to discuss). CO-LEADER - reads the First Reading, reads the response, leads the petitions for the children's prayers. TIME KEEPER - keeps track of the adult Mass and lets LOWC group know when to return to Church for Liturgy of the Eucharist with adults. CROWD CONTROL - sits among the children and makes sure their attention is focused where it needs to be. It is important that all members take at least one turn as leader. It's OK to be nervous the first time (or two) that you take on that role, but there will always be 3 other adults with you (ideally, 2 of whom have participated in the program before) who will help you with discussions or whatever you need assistence with. The goal is to finish the year with 4 team members who are comfortable in any of the team roles. 3) You must be VIRTUS trained - in order to work or volunteer with children in any Catholic church or school, you must complete the VIRTUS program. Training sessions are held at various times throughout the year and last 2 1/2 - 3 hours. Your VIRTUS certificate is good for any Catholic organization and will not have to be renewed.
